I'm sorry I'm 2 weeks late writing. I've just been prepping for midterms, projects, my road test, and all my church duties (teaching Sunday school last week and this week, my calling, visit-teaching, etc. etc.) I'm on reading break, but I've never been busier and I didn't even go home for it. But I do miss writing!! So so much! Right now I'm taking a break from my accounting shiz to let you all know that I miss you!
As I think you probably know, my brain is very much drained from studying so much. Therefore, I am currently lacking any inspiration. Nevertheless, I do not want to lag behind any further so I have decided to be a spoiled little girl and make my birthday wishlist. Ever since I was in my late-teens, I never really gave much thought to what I want for Christmas or my birthday. In fact, don't even get as excited about those yearly events as much as I used to. But, I guess I will challenge myself and come up with a list of material things I want/need since my birthday is coming up soon. Not so that people will buy it for me, but so that I'll know how to treat myself! There's definitely things that I love getting but are personal in the sense that only the person getting it should be the one getting it, you know? Like perfume, shoes, clothes, iPhone cases, etc. I usually just buy it myself or just trust family members or close friends with good taste who know me well enough to go for it.
Make-up brushes by Sigma
I don't wear make-up every day. In fact I think you'll find me more often not wearing it than wearing it. You know how some people wonder what a girl looks like without any make-up? With me it's the opposite almost. I'm just too lazy and it's uncomfortable to not be able to rub my face or eyes throughout the day. But at certain occasions such as church, dates, dances, weddings, job interviews, etc. not only do I wear make-up, but my getting-ready process is a sacred ritual. So even though I don't wear it every day, I do love it. For those of you who know me and have spent enough time with me, you'd know that I already own a LOT of eye shadow - I literally have two palettes that have at least 50 shades each. I'm also satisfied with the number of blushes and lipsticks, the foundation and the bronzer I use. And if I wasn't, I'd go out and buy it myself, because I find that those things are kind of personal, like perfume. Eye shadow isn't, but I already have enough of it. What I do need is brushes, particularly eye make-up ones. I have some already but they got nothing on Sigma! And I also don't have too many.Chocolate
My favourite chocolate is Belgian milk chocolate. I hate white or dark chocolate. And I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate bars. Truffles are the way to go for me. I loooooove boxes of chocolate. It has been my yearly tradition to buy myself at least one every year on Valentine's day, regardless of whether I spend it alone or with someone to buy me some... I ALWAYS make sure I get myself the kind I want.Gift cards is another option. Here are some places I'd love to get gift cards for:
Sephora
I'm not a high-maintenance person in the sense that I have to buy the most expensive car, clothes, purse, or whatever. However, there are 4 things that I am willing to spend more money on to guarantee I'm getting the best of - shoes, hair salon, makeup, and perfume. As I said earlier, most cosmetics are very personal. So, gift cards are always well received. I LOVE Sephora! Whenever I shop there, I always leave with the biggest smile in my face and I feel so beautiful even though I haven't used the item(s) I bought just yet. It is by far my favourite cosmetics store because I know I'm buying the best of the best quality. They have excellent customer service in that whenever I need to buy something, there's always a sales associate with enough knowledge and skills to be ready to not just recommend brands that work with me personally and let me try them on (and teach me how to use them if I don't know), but that fit my budget, that looks good on me and that solves the issue I have. And if I'm still not sure of what I want, they always give me samples of each alternative. So, even though it's an expensive store, you're treated like a queen whose wishes are their command. And I have a beauty insider so I always get a bunch of free stuff every time I go there. Last week I got lipstick and mascara for my birthday and moisturiser!Le chateau
I love getting shoes and dresses and just clothes in general. But it's kind of personal in the sense that you need to know the person you're buying it for well enough to choose. It needs to fit their wardrobe style, you have to get the right size, you have to see if it looks good on them, if they have any other accessories or clothes that match the item you're buying, etc. You also need to consider whether or not they already have a similar item. That's why it's always safe to just get a giftcard. I'm not particular with brands (well, I boycott Abercrombie & Fitch, and I don't buy items that require quality like shoes at Ardene, Claire's or Urban planet), but I do have some favourite stores. Le château always seems to have items that fit my style. I also really like Fairweather, Tommy Hilfiger, Suzy Shier, H&M, and Forever 21. But those are just favourites. I'm okay with anything really.Cream hair & makeup lounge
This is where I get my hair done. It's a local family business and they have 3 locations - Westbank, downtown, and Cooper road. I'm not too particular about where I get my hair done though. Hair cuts, conditioning treatments, or hair styling I don't splurge too much on. However, when it comes to colouring, I make SURE I get it done at not just the best of the best, but also with a stylist that understands my demands and who has good vision and taste. That's mainly because my hair is pretty stubborn when it comes to getting dyed for being so dark and for having brassy undertones. I used to do it at home but I never got it the way I wanted it to so I always found myself spending more time and money on products to screw it up and to fix it than on getting it done professionally. So, I started going to the MC college which is a beauty school - it's super cheap and they have good deals. But the same thing happened with regard to spending money to fix it - their products just weren't as good as my hair requires. Then this girl in my ward got highlights that I really liked and I asked her where she got them and she told me, so I started seeing the same hair stylist. Then she moved to Enderby, so I kept going to Cream and started seeing a stylist who was really good too and I've been seeing her ever since!I'm not a picky person at all when it comes to getting gifts. The fact that someone took the time and the money to demonstrate they thought of me is good enough to please me. These are just some platonic materialistic desires in my soul that I don't really put thought into unless asked.
Here's a question I get asked a lot about my birthday - why do you keep your birthday a secret from Facebook? I don't like Facebook birthday wishes - they're insincere, and I get tons of them. They fill up my timeline like nobody's business and just feel like spam mail. So I might as well keep it a secret because the people who truly want me to have a happy birthday already know when it is by heart, so I don't feel like it needs to go on Facebook. Don't get me wrong though, I do love getting sweet phone calls, texts, cards and visits on my birthday. It's just the millions of "happy birthday have a good day" wall posts from random people I never talk to that bug me.
What I'm doing for my birthday? Writing a midterm. Literally. I know, I'm sad. And the midterm will be at night so I'll probably spend the whole day reviewing for it and the entire evening writing it. So if I do celebrate my birthday it'll have to be on the following day which is fine I guess, though not accurate. I don't know what I'm doing the next day. I know I definitely wanna eat chocolate cake. And maybe eat out - but the thing is I only get to eat out on my actual birthday cuz that's when restaurants give me bday deals, but I'll be writing a test. So hard to be me! I'll probably hang out with friends during lunch time if they're not busy during the day.
How old will I be? 22. Kind of a lame age to be, cuz there's nothing different about it. Like when I turned 18 I was legally an adult in Brazil, 19 I'm a legal adult in Canada, 20 I'm two decades old, 21 is the drinking age in the states and used to be the missionary age for girls (though I'm not doing any of those things). I guess being 22 makes me feel grown up - I'm still young and in my early 20's, but further into my 20's than last year so (hopefully) I'm taken more seriously. It must be why Taylor Swift wrote a song about it - to give 22-year old's something to do on their birthday, like jamming to a song by her. So thanks T. Swift! I actually love that song, so yes I do plan on jamming to it on my birthday! Actually, now that I think of it, 22 feels old. I know what you older-than-22-people are thinking... but for someone who still looks and acts like they're still 17 I feel old!
